1. Harden the foundation
Start with redundant authoritative DNS, DNSSEC where appropriate, and clear zone ownership. Our templates keep zones source-controlled and change-managed.
- Version control zone files and push via GitOps (e.g. Flux, Argo).
- Enable DNSSEC on public zones and monitor signing expiry.
- Adopt separated accounts for registrar, DNS, and hosting access.
2. Configure BreathGSLB
Global load balancing pairs DNS intelligence with health checks. We geo-tag records, weight pools, and automate failover playbooks.
- Define primary and secondary endpoints with health check URLs. Ensure idempotent checks (HTTP 200, JSON payload).
- Set latency or geography-based policies (UK, EU, North America) to keep users close to content.
- Drill failover quarterly—force a node offline and confirm alerting, ticketing, and rollback steps work.
3. Operate with visibility
Dashboards, logging, and runbooks matter more than hardware. We provide the standard operating procedures so your engineers can respond quickly.
- Log zone changes and notify stakeholders via Slack/Teams when records update.
- Monitor query rates, NXDOMAIN spikes, and TTL expiries. Alert when anomalies exceed baseline.
- Maintain contact trees and escalation paths for registrar, hosting, and CDN providers.
